Experience

Let’s talk about experience. My graphic design career began in an unexpected place—an advertising agency. I once took an advertising class in junior college and disliked it so much I swore I’d never work in the field. Yet, that surprising start set the stage for everything that followed.

I worked my way up to art director, thriving in a fast-paced environment filled with tight deadlines and creative collaboration. These experiences shaped my strong work ethic and allowed me to develop my clean design style. The agency owner valued 'finesse,' urging us to approach design with skill and subtlety—a principle that still guides my work today.

When my first daughter was born, I founded Ann Cook Design to strike a balance between family and career. From my home office, I served clients across multiple time zones—well before remote work became “cool”. Was it hectic? Absolutely. But I’ve always been adept at juggling, both literally and figuratively.

Over the years, I’ve worked with clients in various industries, including telecommunications, real estate, healthcare, finance, and small businesses. Eventually, I found my niche in the financial sector, partnering with banks and credit unions to achieve meaningful results—and earning some awards along the way.

To me, experience is more than education or time on the job. It’s shaped by the moments that change how we see the world and connect with others. Growing up as an American overseas—attending boarding school in the Himalayas and on a tropical island in Malaysia—gave me a unique, global outlook. This diverse background fuels my creativity and enables me to adapt my designs for various audiences. Each project provides me with an opportunity to blend these influences, combining my graphic design skills, adaptability, and collaborative spirit to deliver thoughtful and impactful solutions.

My daughter is 34 years old. So is Ann Cook Design. Building my business alongside my family has been my greatest experience, and both continue to inspire me every day.
